Meal Prepping Part 1

Hey guys, wanted to take a minute to talk about meal-prep.

So, you just started working out again and you're killing it in the gym! After every workout you get cleaned up, feeling great about yourself (which you should), you take that long awaited look in the mirror.  Every part of you looks great and you feel amazing.  As you stand analyzing your physique you notice the one area not changing as quick as you would’ve liked.  Lets face it, seeing change and seeing results is what your doing this for right?  You’ve seen all the hype on “food prep” and you’ve heard it over and over “Abs are made in the kitchen” but you have no idea where to start much less how to start?

My family and I have been doing a Paleo diet now for about 6 months and let me be real true with you all……..its not as easy as it looks on Facebook or Instagram!  There are several diets out there now that will give you great results so its truly up to you to do your research and find out which one best fits your lifestyle or your families likes.  With Paleo, we’ve found that it fits pretty dang good with us.  But, the one area that has always been a struggle for us is the time to cook that great healthy meal!!  Who has time to cook all day everyday??  NOT ME!!

As my wife and I started getting more into our healthy choice of eating right we also started seeing more meal prep ideas and how to get more out of the food we were buying.  One of the biggest things we saw was the use of food containers!  For those of you who don’t really know what I’m talking about, it’s the Tupperware of dieting if you will.  We would choose one, maybe two nights of the week totally dedicated to meal prepping (with containers).  Whether your trying to loose weight or make some gains, meal prepping with food containers is a necessity for proportioning your protein and carb in take.

So, you’ve made your list of food and you’ve gone to the grocery store.  What’s next?  Where do I get these “meal prep containers” everyone is using?  Our website which is in the works has a killer food prep item we feel like long term food preppers and newbies can both benefit from.  When we sourced these out, the idea was simple.  A dishwasher safe, microwave safe, bpa free, and really cheap container was what we were looking for to suit our needs.  On our site, a 50 pack (yes, 50, and I’ll explain why in a second) is only 23.99.  That’s less than 50 cents each for 50 trays.  So, 50 trays we feel is the optimal number for one or a couple of people in a household to get the max benefit from.  It allows you to create 20-30 meals in a week, and have trays from last week being washed or in waiting for the next set.  It also gives you enough, that if you do need to throw some away as you go, at less than 50 cents each, you can do so without feeling like you’ve messed up your game plan and equipment reserves.  I know I throw some away here and there, especially if I utilize a heavy tomato based sauce with low-fat ground beef.  I personally hate cleaning those, so I toss one here and there.

Now, what goes into the trays themself, is up to you and your family.  Whether you follow Paleo, or The Zone, or whatever, consistent tray sizes equal consistent results and consistent packing.  Notice a theme here?
